E3 Day 1 Round-Up

I thought I’d put together my take on E3′s day one big boys’ press announcements so you guys didn’t have to wade through the hours of corporate hype. However you can click on the links put together by Gamespot if you really want to waste a lot of your day.

Microsoft
Yada, Yada, Yada, oh something about smart glass, something else about Windows 8, nothing interesting to see here.

EA
We like the numbers 3, 13 and 20. Oh, and we think everything you do should get posted to Facebook and Twitter. Basically, EA has recycled all their IPs and put a 3 or 2013 at the end, added some social networking stuff that is cross-platform with smartphones etc. Basically not an original thought came from EA, unless you count some not so new ways so relieve people of their hard earned cash via DLC.

Ubisoft
We like boobies, virtual fondling, dancing girls and machine gunning endangered species. We also like finding new ways to take your money, by adding social networking stuff to our games just like EA. Ubisoft’s saving grace though is a new IP Watch Dogs (please see above video). This completely stole the show on day one and is in my opinion the only thing worthy of note from the first day. In the words of the immortal Stylosa “This looks like it might have some worth”. Take ten minutes of your life to check out the trailer, it’ll be time well spent. Think Deus EX meets GTA meets Person of Interest (the TV series).

Sony
I wont go into much detail here on their hour and a half presentation as it mostly focused on consoles, but the presentation was the best of everyone’s, if only in terms of the fact that there were fewer awkward moments.

So in summary, I could have slept through day one and still guessed most of the announcements, but I would have missed Watch Dogs and that really would have been a shame. I would also have missed the great commentary provided throughout via Twitter from @unitlostgaming and @thegamestation, which did indeed keep me from falling asleep.

Day 2 Kicks off with the Nintendo Nutters 9am (PDT) or 5pm (BST), that should be well worth a look as they always provide a unique take on these sort of things; less corporate, more “we are just gonna have some fun”. Expect a full Wii U blow out though.
