I left my response on the article. The thing is, Google is one of the only entities that can potentially compete with the likes of Facebook, so you can see why they are trying to do this. The user base of YouTube is massive, so if they can force say 90% of them to join Google+ that would be seen as a result in their eyes.

What they don't seem to understand is views = money, not just for partner channels but for YouTube itself. Why they would want to possibly hinder viewers is beyond me.

Terrible stuff.
