It seems someone at Sony and ACONY Games has fallen headfirst into their TIVO machine and come up with a rather unusual mismash of ideas. This has resulted in the developement of Bullet Run – a free-to-play online shooter.
The game takes place in a futuristic world where war and entertainment have merged into a reality deathmatch show where the last man or woman standing gets fame and fortune before a live broadcast audience. In other words, it’s exactly what reality television will become very soon.
Beyond the trailer, there’s not a lot of information. However, here’s what we do know:
The developers have just completed a closed beta test and plan to start an open beta soon. So far, there’s no tentative release date on the title or even confirmation whether or not it will appear on the PC and/or PS3. It will, however, make its public debut at the upcoming E3.
Boasting six different maps and hosting up to twenty players, the game will offer access to fourteen different weapons that can be modified and combined to create more powerful or efficient killing machines for each episode. They range from traditional guns and ammo to more futuristic hardware, such as remote controlled drones or a “robotic spider that players can control which will lock an enemy in place temporarily.”
ACONY’s creative director, Jan-Eric Lauble, told Forbes that his studio and SOE hope to distance themselves from other free-to-play multiplayer shooters by making their project more story driven – from the action on the field to the ultimate demise of each ‘contestant’.
Oh, and apparently facepainting is mandatory and not for camouflage purposes.
