Is this the future of eSports? It’s a question that bares thinking about. Given that the current most watched eSport is League of Legends, which many commentators attribute to the game’s huge player base, rather than its pedigree and ease of understanding (à la Starcraft), could this Minecraft mod, The Walls, be the Holy Grail of eSports?
Think about it; tactics, easy to discern player advantages and disadvantages, micro and macro – these are all the province of Starcraft, the ‘premiere’ eSport. Couple that with huge numbers of people playing and also watching Minecraft streams and YouTube channels. Enhance that with the use of fire, explosive TNT and the ability to lay traps and bait and you may have the the greatest eSport ever!
All that’s missing is a spectator mode mod.
So the future is here and the future is square.
