Reselling Downloaded Games? EU Says YES!

Yep, you read it right, The Court Of Justice of the European Union has ruled that no matter what obstacles retailers and publishers try to put in your way (including EULAs), customers have the right to resell digital content just as they would if it was physical.

Not to put too finer point on it, but this could change not only gaming but the internet forever. The ramifications are HUGE!

If you want to know more, head over to Rockpapershotgun as that’s where I got my first look at this. There’s a link to a pdf there too containing the ruling.

One last thing to consider before you go out and dance in the streets: Publishers/Distributors and the Creators all gotta make money, so this could end up hiking prices for new releases. I did say the ramifications could be huge didn’t I?

Update to include Sty and Kiri’s Gameshow rantings on the subject.

One random Old Git Gamer, it all started with PONG, then the arcades with Space Invaders and Asteriods, followed by games on the Vic20, ZX81, Sinclair Spectrum, the Atari ST and Amiga, until finally PC's and the Tinternet were invented. You may think you know about games, but me I was around before they were even INVENTED!!!!
