Well this is pretty big news…
Up until now, developers (indies, that is) would, upon submission of their pride and joy, have to wait for the arbitrary “yes” or “no” from the folks at Steam. But, from August 2012, everything’s changing; the devs can post tidbits of a game in progress or near completion and – this is the good bit – get the community to push for it to be distributed.
Everyone knows a story of a great game that never made it onto Steam for whatever reason. Well now we all have the power to at least try to prevent such travesties from ever occuring again. Sure, it’ll probably be abused at first (HL: Episode 3?), but in the end, I think this is probably the right direction in which to be heading.
